1) The general recommendation for intake of Fruits & Vegetables is at least 400 grams per person per day (five serving of 80 g each day) or about 146 kg per person per year.
On The Contrary latest National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) survey revealed low consumption of Fruits & Vegetables. Avg. household consumption of Fruits & Vegetables indicates 149 Grams per person per day. Annual consumption (kg/person/annum) of fruits was 9.6 (rural), 15.6 (urban) and 11.8 (India) while it was 74.3 (rural), 79.1 (urban), 76.1 (India) for vegetables.
2) We all know fruits and vegetables in India are laced with surface toxic contaminants like insecticides, pesticide residue, bacteria, dirt, wax, grime, fungicides, artificial ripening agents like calcium carbide etc., before getting into your food plate. Like you cannot wash your hands / body with only water but you require soap to convert the dirt, oil, grime and wax on your body into water soluble form. So how can you wash away all the insecticide, pesticide residue, wax, fungus, oil, dirt and grime on the surface of fruits and vegetables with pain water?
3) Stocking of Products by wholesalers, which led increase in prices hence impact your budget.
4) Current Cycle of Distribution == A) Farmer- B) Wholesale Market- C)Small Wholesale Mandi or Seller – D) Retailer – E) Customer. Because of this cycle commodities lose their Freshness & Prices are also increased
5) In India Farmers are not getting Paid enough, they are only getting 25 % or may be less of the Final value of product. (Though International standard is 50 % of the final Value).
6) More than 30 % Products get wasted during, harvesting, Transporting & retailing. ((India, the world's second largest producer of Fruits and vegetables, is throwing away fresh produce worth INR 13,300 crore every year.
