I look closely at the quality and sustainability of revenue. I prefer businesses with a diversified participant base, recurring service relationships and consistent utilization, rather than reliance on a small number of participants or short-term referral-driven work. Second, compliance maturity is important. I am more comfortable with providers that already have structured policies, documentation and systems in place, as this creates a stronger platform for growth and reduces operational risk. Workforce stability is another major factor. Businesses with an established core team and reliable rostering capability tend to scale more effectively than those heavily dependent on the owner delivering services directly. Because I am particularly interested in partnership-style investments rather than full acquisitions, I also spend time understanding the motivation behind offering a minority stake. I generally look for situations where the existing owner is seeking a collaborative partner to help support growth, expand services or strengthen systems. More broadly, I am attracted to businesses that already have a solid operational base but still have clear opportunities to scale. I tend to be less interested in businesses where performance depends heavily on a single individual or where systems and compliance structures are still developing. Overall, I am looking for opportunities where I can work alongside an existing owner and contribute to building something stronger over time rather than simply acting as a passive investor.
