I look for established and profitable businesses that I can actively operate and develop over the long term. As an entrepreneur currently managing a company in the sports, leisure and aviation sectors, and with 15 years of previous experience in banking, I pay particular attention to proven revenue, normalized EBITDA, cash-flow generation, working-capital requirements and the quality of the underlying assets and contracts.
I favour companies with repeat demand, a defensible market position, a diversified customer base, transferable supplier or exclusivity agreements, a capable team and clear growth opportunities. I am particularly attracted to omnichannel businesses combining B2B distribution, retail and e-commerce, especially in the sports, fitness, health, aviation and leisure sectors. I admire business models such as Decathlon, Life Fitness, Myprotein and Gymshark because of their strong market positioning, operational discipline, customer loyalty and ability to combine products, brand and distribution. Conversely, I avoid pre-revenue start-ups, pure dropshipping businesses, low-margin commodity retailers, and companies that depend excessively on one owner, one customer or one non-transferable supplier agreement. I also avoid businesses whose reported profitability cannot be reconciled with reliable financial records.
Regarding this opportunity, I particularly value its 13-year operating history, established B2B network, exclusive distribution rights, multiple sales channels and reported profitability. Before completing an acquisition, I would focus on verifying the sustainability and transferability of the exclusivity agreements, normalised EBITDA, customer and supplier concentration, stock ageing and expiry dates, working-capital needs, debt and the company’s ability to operate successfully after the current owners’ departure. My objective is not a short-term financial investment. I intend to relocate to the UAE, become actively involved in the business, preserve what the founders have built and develop the company further across the UAE and potentially the wider GCC region.
